Impact

ArtWorks’ programs focus on outcomes, which reflect the common youth outcomes identified by our longtime funding and program partner MPS Partnership for the Arts & Humanities: Milwaukee youth are socially and emotionally healthy, Milwaukee youth acquire 21st Century Skills to become successful adults, and Milwaukee youth have a positive impact on their community.

In 2017, 88% of interns agreed or strongly agreed that the ArtWorks’ experience impacted them in the following ways:

learned how to build a resume

increased understanding & knowledge about career possibilities

felt more confident in future aspirations

increased ability to creatively express themselves

gained skills in identifying & understanding problems

had practice in coming up with solutions

increased awareness of how their behavior affects others

increased abilities to cooperate & collaborate on a shared task

improved communication of their thoughts & needs

have more creative outlets in their lives to avoid negative influences

had the chance to implement solutions

are better at understanding how to best communicate with others

Beyond ArtWorks, many of our intern alums have translated this experience into satisfying careers in architecture, design, human resources, technology, therapy and more – in Milwaukee. Exposure to caring adults and opportunities throughout the city, as teens, has helped them recognize Milwaukee as a place where they can prosper as adults and have a positive impact on the city’s direction. Here are a few highlights of our intern success stories:

ArtWorks is also proud to involve intern alums in various ways with the organization:

Deanna and Ong recently joined ArtWorks Board as its first intern alumni members

Tymothy Harper, a MIAD graduate, and Haley Anderson, a student at Mount Mary University, are lead artists.
