Graphic Design + Mental Health Advocacy Internship

Our Graphic Design + Mental Health Advocacy paid internship, known as CAPE Mental Health Movement, is an ArtWorks for Milwaukee program that utilizes graphic design to help spread mental health awareness, education, and acceptance. CAPE’s mission is to improve access to resources, dismantle stigmas concerning mental conditions, and rebuild healthier perceptions concerning mental health.

What have we accomplished?

Led by graphic designer, Dionna Hayden, we’ve received professional and life training while actively paying it forward with our talents, skills, and most importantly, our own experiences. We were able to bring mental health education and awareness to our communities and collaborate with partner organizations, including NAMI Southeast WI and the State of Wisconsin Office of Children's Mental Health (OCMH) to promote community-based mental health services and programs.

Our unique youth perspectives shape and provide creativity to the projects put forward by CAPE. Below are projects we’ve created during our 2021-2022 season.

CAPE 2021-22 Projects

During the course of this season, we learned that art and design are interchangeable, but are not the same. Art serves as a form of expression while design serves a function or solves a problem; combined together creates dynamic creative work. Each project we’ve created addresses a specific need concerning mental health using art and design.
