In fall of 2022, our Environmental Arts interns designed and painted two storm drains in the Pulaski Park Neighborhood to raise awareness of public water systems and help deter local littering. Each bearing the words “Una Agua, Nuestra Agua” or “One Water, Our Water,” the paintings serve as a reminder that our water supplies are both a vast, interconnected system, as well as a vital resource belonging to the public.
The artwork was created by our interns based on the community’s input and the final selections were made by a committee representing the KK River Neighbors in Action. One design depicts the globe with a single drop of water surrounded by a blossoming universal symbol of recycling. While the other design features a gull, the divisive, but undeniably iconic resident of our waterways, in front of the sun rising over Lake Michigan as depicted in the People’s Flag of Milwaukee.
